Progress Reports

Last week was the 9 weeks mark at school. On Tuesday, I had a teacher conference with Leah's 1st grade teacher. She showed me her report card and let me know how she is doing for the year. She is doing very well. No problems so far. All "S." We couldn't have been happier. (I forgot to take a picture of her report card)

On a sadder note, if we had a progress report for my "to-do" list, we might get an A for effort. When I wrote that little list of only 8 projects I forgot to mention all the small projects. Such as: sanding and painting every piece of furniture, finding new wall art, possibly new bedding, etc.. Oh and let's not forget that my house is always full of energetic little children. Which means we can't do much renovating during the day, so Jesus and I have been up almost every night from around 9:00 to 12:00 working on their rooms. Needless to say, we're almost 3 weeks in and A & B's room is just about done. Next up, L's room.

New window seat/toy box
(For my "friends" on facebook did you notice the little girl in the corner with no pants)

 Newly painted dresser/changing table

 Also newly painted toddler bed

More pictures to come when it is completed.
Happy Monday!

Locks of Love

Miss Adrienne has been telling me she wants a haircut for about  6 months now. We keep telling her no. If you've seen her, her hair is almost to her waist. She was pretty determined to get it cut because about a month and a half ago she cut her bangs by herself. It wasn't too bad and she didn't need a haircut. Well this past Wednesday she did it again, so we decided it was time to get her a cut before she did something that wasn't fixable. I told Briana that if it was long enough to donate then we would go short. It was. We cut off 10 1/2 inches. We explained to her about the donation and she was all for it.

Here are her before and afters:

Over the Weekend

This isn't a post about our progress in the rooms. There was no time for projects this weekend. On Saturday, we headed out to Amarillo in an attempt to finally make it to Maxwell's Pumpkin Patch.  We rolled in to the farm about 5:00. The girls were so excited. It is one of their favorite things to do this time of year. And mine too.

After the Pumpkin Patch. We continued south and headed to my home away from home. As some of you may know my "Grandpa Lupe" passed away this February. While preparing the funeral arrangements the family made a donation to the church in his honor.  This past Sunday they presented us with a plaque during their church service.

For lunch we all gathered at my grandparent's house and had a little family reunion. It was sad at times sitting there remembering them, and knowing that they aren't with us anymore, but we know we will see them again. And although death is a part of this world, so is new life.

This precious little girl was so sweet to remind me of that.

Gratitude for the Week

  1. Weekends. I have now realized I have a long list of DIY projects, and weekends are usually when I can get them done. Thanks to my # 2.
  2. I realize Jesus made the list last time. But last time it was because he was not around, and I realized how much he helps. And this time it is for all the help. Most of all, keeping the kids busy when mom is doing one of her many projects.
  3. Spray paint. Weird I know. But this fun little invention is coming in handy with all the room makeovers.
  4. Another, busy but good, week at the Vargas household.
Have a Great Weekend! See you Monday!

The Point of No Return

Another busy weekend at the Vargas house. There was no football game on Friday, so we had an open evening. We decided to surprise the girls by taking them to the Discovery Center. It was open late last Friday for the Amarillo Balloon Festival. The festivities for the night was "Glow." The balloons inflate but never take off. They sit there and glow. It is still fun to watch.

Saturday we went back to Amarillo and picked up some of the things we will be needing for the girls rooms.  There are only a few times a don't like living in a big city, and when I need supplies is definitely one of them.

Sunday we started off with church in the morning. Then it was demo of the room and painting. We are now at what my husband likes to call "The Point of NO Return." Empty room. Walls painted. We're off to a good start. I hope it continues.

(Sorry for the bad phone pictures.)

To-Do List

There is going to be a few changes going on in the Vargas household. Everyone say a little prayer for Jesus and me, because I am not his favorite person when I am redecorating.

  1. move my computer to the hall linen closet
  2. remove the desk in the living room & replace it with some sort of seating
  3. switch the girls room around-Brynlee & Adrienne are going to be sharing a room & give Leah her own room
  4. Build a built-in shelving system around the window in the girls room
  5. Paint both rooms...again(this will be the 3rd time since we moved in)
  6. put up a new tile backspash in the kitchen
  7. possibly paint kitchen cabinets
  8. master bedroom make-over
(rough drawing done on paint of the girls new room...hopefully)

We'll see how it goes;)

Brayden's 3rd Birthday

As I mentioned before we celebrated my great-nephews 3rd birthday one week ago. It was a good time. It was just fun getting all of the family together. That doesn't happen very often.

Catch-up

1.  Homecoming was two weeks ago. We WON! I made Leah and Adrienne's mums this year. I thought Brynlee was still too little, so she had a spirit stick.

2.  Leah tried out for the all school play. She is going to be an angel. We are excited.

3.  Leah & Adrienne are taking gymnastics in a town about 35 min away. They love it.

4.  Brynlee's favorite new gesture is shrugging her shoulders. So if you ask her anything her response is always "I don't know."

5.  My house is under "Extreme Makeover Brenda Edition" ( dang you pinterest).

6.  We celebrated my great-nephews birthday last Saturday. My brother and sister and their families came over. It was a good time.

What have you been up to lately?

(Poor Leah. It was early and my flash was a little bright.)

Hello October

I can't believe it's the 1st of October already. Where has this year gone? This has to be my favorite time of year. It is the beginning of fall weather, pumpkin patches & Thanksgiving. I am a little sad this year, because we didn't make it to the Annual Balloon Fest in Albuquerque, NM. We have tried to go almost every year for the last few years.  If you have never been, I suggest you try to make it at least once in your life. It is something you will never forget. I can't explain how truly amazing it is and pictures don't do it justice.

Here are just a few from our visit last year.

I promise they were happy. They were just tired from the long trip the night before.
